Essential Steps to Improve Intelligence

improve intelligence, intelligence, intellect, intellectual, smart, become smart, be smarter

As babies we are like sponges, taking in all that is around us. We start our journey of learning from even before birth. From such an early time in our lives we begin absorbing knowledge, and everyday we improve intelligence. For the next roughly twenty-two years (including college) we are in school, learning all we can to enable us for success in the real world, as well as, enrich our lives. Why then should we stop learning after our formal education is complete? If you have let your personal quest for knowledge grow complacent, follow this series to start improving your intelligence today.

Many of us go to careers in which we cannot stop learning. Technology surpasses our understanding so in order to remain relevant, we must learn. We must adapt to the changing world around us. Most of us do not have the luxury to just remain stagnant. For those of us who do have to learn, we are the fortunate.

There are skills which are perishable and some you never forget. Riding a bicycle is a skill you don’t forget; you may be out of practice but you will not forget how to ride a bike. On the other hand, if you learn a foreign language, there is a good possibility you will forget all you learned without using that language.

To remain relevant and to also maintain a healthy mind it is imperative you never stop learning. Continuous learning will give you more knowledge which gives you more authority. With more education, formal or not, you become more useful to those around you. In the famous words of Frank A. Clark, “the more you learn, the more you earn”. Here are some of the ways you can maintain a life of learning.

Develop a mindset for learning

Take every opportunity to learn something. Look for those moments you can take a lesson away. Get away from the frame of mind that because you are no longer in formal school you needn’t learn any more. You can always learn something else, even life lessons. It has to be a decision not a chance. Once you have a mindset for learning, you have taken the first step toward improving your intelligence.

Understand what type of learner you are

There are people who learn better using hands on training and others who learn better by studying a book. Some need a combination of the two. Neither is a better way of learning. It just depends on you. Learn to understand your learning style to improve intelligence and foster a learning atmosphere. If you aren’t immediately sure what type of learner you are, you can take a quick quiz on your learning style here.

Foster a learning atmosphere

If you sit in a room with no windows you will not see outside the room. If you sit in a room with no books, you are not likely to read. Make it a point to have something on hand at all times to enable learning. You can’t just wait for it to happen, it won’t. Your improved intelligence will only come when you find you are always in a position to learn.

Constantly improve

Tony Robbins indicated in his blog wealthy people never stop learning. It doesn’t have to be exclusively wealthy people who learn. It just so happens constantly learning often sets them apart from the rest of society. Constantly learning will always improve intelligence.

Choose a career where learning is a must or encouraged

In some arenas, learning is not required. In others, it is a must to remain viable and necessary. You have choices in life, if you want to constantly improve your intelligence, you can choose a path where learning is essential or you can choose a mundane existence leading to nowhere.

These are only five simple steps you can begin to today to improve your intelligence. there are many other options, stay tuned here for another installment with more ideas of how to improve intelligence.
